Cory Ahrens - A Brief Introduction to Inverse Problems
An Informal Talk: A Brief Introduction to Inverse Problems
Cory Ahrens
Applied Mathematics
University of Colorado at Boulder
Inverse problems play a key role in many areas of science and technology, for example, medical imaging, astronomy, nondestructive testing and geophysics. To "solve" an inverse problem, typically one needs to use tools from functional and real analysis, numerical methods and have a good understanding of the physics involved. In this talk the main properties of inverse problems will be illustrated by several examples, along with what it means to solve an inverse problem and a few techniques for their solution.
