Dell Workstation /scratch directoriesOn each Dell workstation in the Newton Lab, you can read from and write to any of the following subdirectories. Each of the new Dells has 29GB of disk space available for ``scratch space'' -- space intended for large generated/derived files that can be regenerated if necessary (thus don't need to be backed up on tape every night).

unix>   touch oldfile.datwill change the timestamp for file oldfile.dat, as shown by the command ls -l oldfile.dat. This makes the file ``new'' for purposes of scratch directory maintenance -- no file younger than 3 months old will be deleted except by consultation with the file's owner.
