Computing in the APPM Lab ECCR 143

The computer lab in ECCR 143 has 28 computers loaded with software like Mathematica and Matlab and other software needed in various classes taught by the Department of Applied Mathematics. To use these computers you must use the same username and IdentiKey password as with any other ITS Mac/PC lab, but the door is locked to all but students of those classes.

Students:

All users of ECCR 143 are expected to follow the usual computer lab rules: NO FOOD/DRINK, no inappropriate use of the computers (games, hacking, etc.); during reserved course hours, only students enrolled in that course can use the computers; when a computer is down or not functioning properly, it should be reported immediately on the ITS Labs Maintenance web page.

Instructors (Use Of Projector):

Turn OFF after use

The front computer is connected to an overhead projector. The projector bulb is expensive ($500) and should be good for 2000 hours of use; please learn how to treat the projector (and its lamp) correctly. In particular, the projector should be turned off when not in use. Either use the remote control (below, left) to press the On/Off button twice, or (below, right) reach up and press twice the large button on the bottom of the projector.

(Normally, the projector will switch to Standby only if the computer is turned off. So it is best, in general, to turn the projector itself off when your class is over.)

The Remote Control

You may want to borrow the remote control to make it easier to turn the projector off/on, or to use the zoom feature of the projector. The remote is available from Bruce Fast, ECOT 215; remember to return it when the class is over.

Reporting bulb usage

The bulb for the projector costs $500, so help us make sure that it lasts as long as possible. The bulb is supposed to be good for 2000 hours of use. Help make all 2000 hours class hours...

Using the remote control (or the buttons on the bottom of the hanging projector, if you are tall!) you can press ``menu'' and then select ``Set Setting'' (!) to see the number of hours on the bulb.

When the number of hours exceeds 1500, it may be time to order a replacement bulb; contact Bruce Fast. Also, when you check the number of hours on the bulb, you may submit that information on the projector bulb report web site to help us keep track of the usage.
