The command soffice runs
StarOffice, which serves as a replacement
for Word/Excel/PowerPoint on the Unix computers.
Documents produced with soffice can be saved
in Word/Excel/PowerPoint/HTML form. Likewise,
Word/Excel/PowerPoint/HTML documents can be read by
soffice.
