Oral Assessments
Students will be given the opportunity to discuss the concepts covered in
each unit test in a one hour long small group. These orals will be
facilitated by TAs, LAs and instructors. They are optional but will help
students prepare for the unit tests.

Procedure
- Shortly before orals will begin, you will be able to
sign up for a time from
a given schedule.
- At first, you will be able to choose only one time. After everyone has
had a chance to sign up, you will be able to choose more times, if you so
desire.
- You will login to the sign-up page using your ITS (identikey/webct) login
name (eg "jdoe" or "doej" or "doejane" or ...) and your student ID number
(123456789). This is NOT a secure server! Do NOT use your
identikey password or other sensitive, private information.
- After choosing a time, make sure you either (a) attend that session or
(b) cancel your choice with enough time to allow someone else to take it.
- In the oral session, a facilitator will ask you questions, usually more
conceptual than procedural (eg "what *is* a derivative? what does it mean?").
Everyone in the session will be at a whiteboard/blackboard and can write and
discuss the questions being posed. For everyone to get maximum benefit,
everyone should participate. You should answer questions verbally (discuss),
visually (draw a sketch!), and algebraically ("do math" on the board). The
goal is to integrate these different skills into one true understanding of
the material, beyond just "turning the handle to get an answer".
