Stetson Zirkelbach - Choosing a Warmachine Faction

Application Commentary

I wrote this project to help out a couple of friends who had taken up the table top game Warmachine, developed by Privateer Press. Warmachine is not a simple game and the factions all have their own strengths and weaknesses and my friends were having a hard time deciding. That indecision birthed this project.

All this project does is put the defining factors, and focuses of each faction into a few words, which should let people pick a faction without as much trouble. The option most of my friends went for before this was too read about one hundred pages of fluff and a small fraction of the unit profiles offered in the main rulebook. To me that was not a good way to solve a problem, since the faction could sound good on paper and the units you get to see might be awesome, but the rest of the faction might suck.

To come up with the best summary possible I kept each faction to 4 or 5 talking points that define the faction, and I kept to that. While it might oversimplify each faction I wanted to sum up each play style without taking too long on each faction. I also have a selection of pictures of real models to see if a person likes the look of the models. I do this for every major faction and I point out at the end that there are other factions available, but for the purposes of new players I recommend that they stick to one of the main five.

That is how I came up with and created this project I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
