Course Goals

Schedule

We meet on MWF from 2:00-3:00pm in room ECCR 150 or in the lab ECCR 143.
Below is a flexible, high-level, schedule of topics that we will cover in this class.  Please check back for more details as the class progresses.
Introduction to the JAVA programming environment.
Introduction Object-Oriented Theory and Structure.
JAVA Programming Fundamentals.
JAVA Object-Oriented Programming.

There will be five homework assignments throughout the semester to determine your homework grade. There will be two exams of equal weight that will reinforce your understanding of the material. Class attendance and participation is greatly encouraged. We will schedule the midterm sometime during the semester to take a class period (ECCR150). The final will be given at the officially scheduled time, Friday, 14 December, 1:30-4:00 pm.

Lab

Computers are available in ECCR 235 and ECCR 239. You may download the latest version of JAVA FREE for your personal PC from www.java.sun.com. In addition, many texts come with a CD that includes the latest version along with installation instructions.

Text

There are no required texts for this class; however, I strongly encourage you to pick up a "teach yourself" or an "Introduction to JAVA" style text to supplement your class notes. Please see the references page for a non-exhaustive list of suggestions.
