There will be homework assignments due about every two weeks, usually on Mondays.
You must do the homework regularly. Doing and understanding the homework is extremely important in this class. They are challenging. Do not wait until the last minute!

A written report and talk will be required on a topic relevant to the course.
Most projects have experiments that need to be done in the ITLL. All the experiments in the ITLL use equipment that is only available during public hours (8am–5pm, M–F). If you arrange your experiments during Douglas's office hours (11am–noon, MWF), then he may be able to go to the ITLL to give you some suggestions. Douglas will also be available to help with the experiments in the ITLL from 11am to noon on Thursdays (27 October, 3 November, and 10 November 2011) — check the “Media Shack” in the basement of the ITLL if you don't see him.
Please follow this template for the report.
Your group will speak for 15 minutes — 5 minutes each for groups of three and 7½ minutes each for groups of two. There are stiff penalties for going over your 15 minutes, so practice your talk several times before you give it to us. We'll then ask you questions for about 5 minutes for a total of 20 minutes.
Be prompt and follow the schedule: there are extremely stiff penalties for showing up late. Wait outside the room until you're asked to speak. You're allowed to listen to any talk that isn't on your topic or that is after your talk.
