Verification of the Intermediate Quasi-Geostrophic Model

I will discuss my recent work in writing and testing a pseudo-spectral model of the Intermediate Quasi-Geostrophic equation. Convergence rates are shown for linear cases, where the exact solution is known. For nonlinear cases, qualitative tests such as vortex merger boundaries are used to verify the code.

In this brief talk I want to describe my physical system of interest and propose a method of investigation. I will outline the steps of inquiry, demonstrate the motion of the simple model of a particle in a uniform field and further describe guiding-center motion of a particle in a varying field.
