Coherent Plumes in Rapidly Rotating Convection

Oceanic convection drives the global, millenial scale ocean thermohaline circulation which has a significant impact on the Earth's climate. This convection occurs primarily at high latitudes and is in a regime dominated by rapid planetary rotation. Recent developments in asymptotic analysis of rapidly rotating fluids have produced a new equation set describing rapidly rotating convection. These new equations are used to study the coherent plumes of rapidly rotating convection.
