latex error messages

If there are syntax mistakes in your LaTeX source file (filename.tex), they will produce error messages when you try to compile them. For example, if line #298 of MyDoc.tex says
The vortex spin velocity $\Thata$ is related to $\alpha^2$
(instead of ``\Theta'') then the LaTeX compiler will stop to complain;
[4] [5]
! Undefined control sequence.
 \Thata

l.298 The vortex spin velocity $\Thata
				      $ is related to $\alpha^2$
?
At the prompt `?' you can either type `e' to edit line #298, or `x' to quit, or `q' to make latex put all additional error/warning messages into the log file but not to the monitor.

Take a serious look at the LaTeX error messages because they try to give specific information to help you pinpoint errors in your document by giving both line number and the exact location of the problem. If you only type q, LaTeX will do its best to get through the document but there may be blank spaces or question marks or other runintended results in the places where the errors occur. Be sure to deal with all error messages before printing your final version!

The log file (e.g., MyDoc.log) will include all the errors detected in the most recent pass.
