Errata for The Simple and Infinite Joy of Mathematical Statistics
4/20/2024: It pains me to have to admit that I did not handle errata properly for this text. Since it is printed on demand, I can go in and change things at any time and I've done so over the years without using any sort of version numbering system. For the most part, changes were very minor and only involved grammar and commas. Two inequalities were flipped and an error in the numbering of theorems in Chapter 6 was remedied. If you are reading this text on your own, you should not have any real issues. However, if you are reading it for a class you may be seeing something slightly different than your instructor, especially when it comes to theorem numbers in Chapter 6.
I deeply apologize for any confusion this may cause. All first edition copies of "Joy" purchased after 4/25/2024 will be the same. Any errors found from this point forward will be listed here and will not be changed in the text until a possible 2nd edition printing in the distant future. Thank you for your support and happy estimating!
- Page 321: Subscripts were disappearing and reappearing in this proof.
- Page 323: There is an extra n in the second centered equation from the top of the page.
- Page 434: Near the bottom of the page it says that \(\alpha = k_{1}/\theta_{0}\) when it should say that \(\alpha = (k_{1}/\theta_{0})^{n}\).
- Page 452: In Exercise 4a the alternate hypothesis should be the simple hypothesis that \(\theta =\theta_{1}\) for some fixed \(\theta_{1} \ne 0\).
